bout the Friends
The Friends of Navarre Library is a diverse group of local and regional residents, seasonal residents, and visitors of all ages. We offer a wide range of activities and events that support our local library branch located at 8484 James M. Harvell Road off Highway 87 in Navarre. The library manager is Susan Cook. Our efforts also support the Santa Rosa County Library System.
Recent efforts include funding of a new audio/video projection system installed in the meeting room at the library. This is a welcome improvement for use during children's programs as well as for speakers at various events.

LORE, LEGENDS & LEARNING -- This program, entering its third year, presents local experts on a variety of topics that will be of interest to residents of the Navarre area. In a schedule change from the previous years, 2010 programs will be held from 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m. on the last Tuesday of each month January through October. They are free and are sponsored by the Friends of the Navarre Library. Here is a list of the first six programs.
March 30: Author Cas Dunlap has been a clinical psychologist, board-certified criminal law specialist, a prosecutor for the Dallas County District Attorney's Office and Dallas County Criminal Court judge. His mysteries set on Pensacola Beach show his experience. The light touch makes for great summer reading.
April 27: Anthropologist Neill J. Wallis, Ph.D., visiting assistant professor at the University of West Florida, will explore local Native American art and culture of the Woodland period, 2,000 years ago.
May 25: Using space-age technology to uncover the mystery of Pensacola’s St. Michael’s Cemetery will be discussed by Margo Stringfield, a research associate with the Archaeology Institute.
June 29: Photographer Kenny Wilder makes a return appearance before the Lore, Legends and Learning audience.
September 28: Elizabeth Powell Crowe will tell how to use the internet to explore our personal histories. Crowe, a Navarre resident, is author of the popular Genealogy Online, now in its ninth edition.
The remainder of the schedule will be posted here later.
